Mini Abstract Watercolor Journal

Hardcover Pocket Binding

This isn’t just a project.
It’s a small beginning that turns into something more.

If you’ve been craving something creative but:

  • don’t want to overthink it
  • don’t want to buy a bunch of new supplies
  • don’t want pressure to “get it right”

…this is a beautiful place to begin.

We’ll start with simple materials.
Add layers, texture, and color.
Then transform it all into a small, sturdy book that fits right in your hand.

And once you make one…

you’ll understand why it’s hard to stop.

A hardcover mini journal with a removable book block

  • 4x4 finished size (adaptable to any size)
  • thick, layered pages (almost like a board book)
  • a clever pocket system that holds your pages in place
  • a spine that allows the book to lie flat while you work

You can remove the pages, work on them freely, and slide them back into the cover.

It’s simple.
It’s functional.
And it feels really good in your hands.

[WHAT MAKES THIS DIFFERENT]

Most classes give you a template to follow.

This one teaches you how it works.

So you can:

  • resize it
  • remake it
  • adapt it
  • and create your own variations again and again

This is first… not only.

[WHAT YOU’LL EXPLORE]

Inside the course, we move through four sessions:

Session 1 — Watercolor + Resist

Create layered backgrounds using wax, markers, and simple resist techniques
(watch the magic happen as color reveals what’s underneath)

Session 2 — Texture + Stitching

Add dimension with thread, paper scraps, tape, and tactile materials
(nothing precious—just building surface and interest)

Session 3 — Shape + Composition

Use simple shapes and repetition to explore rhythm and layout
(no rules, just curiosity guiding the way)

Session 4 — Book Construction

Build your hardcover journal from scratch
(no printer required—you’ll learn how to make it from any size)

Along the way, you’ll naturally build skills in:

  • layering and transparency
  • composition and spacing
  • color interaction
  • texture and dimension
  • intuitive mark-making

All through play.

This course was originally taught as a cozy, come-as-you-are retreat.

Think:

  • slow, creative pacing
  • built-in pauses
  • time to step away and come back fresh
  • no pressure to keep up

You can watch, pause, rewind, and move at your own rhythm.

Pajamas optional… but encouraged.

You don’t need anything fancy.

We’ll work with:

  • watercolor paper (or mixed media paper)
  • a few paints
  • simple tools
  • scraps, thread, and found materials

Use what you have.

Cereal boxes, fabric scraps, old papers—it all works.

This is for you if:

  • you’ve been wanting to create but feel stuck
  • you love mixed media but overthink where to start
  • you want a contained, satisfying project
  • you enjoy working with your hands—folding, stitching, layering
  • you miss that feeling of just playing

All levels are welcome. Truly.

You can’t mess this up.

  • Too dark? Lighten it.
  • Don’t like it? Layer over it.
  • Stitch crooked? Do it again—it becomes a feature.

There is no wrong way here.

**One wonky line might feel like a mistake…

repeat it, and suddenly it becomes a feature.**

You’ll walk away with:

  • a finished hardcover mini journal
  • a repeatable structure you can use anytime
  • a deeper comfort working with watercolor + mixed media
  • a starting point for journaling, lettering, collage, and more

And very likely…

the desire to make another one.

Before long, you may find yourself with a small stack…

then a box…

then a little library of these books—
each one holding a piece of your creative life.

[FORMAT]

  • Pre-recorded video lessons
  • Broken into clear, focused sessions
  • Watch anytime, at your own pace
